Fifth Grade
Ms. Cook
Welcome to Ruby Duncan!! My name is Ms. Cook. I have had the opportunity to teach in many different grades and I am excited to spend time this year in 5th grade. I have been teaching for a total of 26 years. I have one daughter who has graduated from college with her bachelor’s degree, but is continuing her education. Her goal is to be a Sports psychologist. She is a long-distance runner and I am a great cheerleader! When I am not teaching, I enjoy gardening, reading, traveling, and I LOVE chocolate. This year will be an exciting one, with many challenges, but I am excited to get to know you and your family. Together, we can make this year a great one. |
Mrs. Johns
Hello, my name is Mrs. Johns and I am very excited about teaching at Ruby Duncan. I was born and raised in North Las Vegas, Nevada. At the age of eighteen, I moved away to pursue my college education. I attended Pomona College and received my Bachelor of Arts in Government. Next, I went on to law school and received my law degree from UCLA School of Law. After practicing law in the state of California for many years, I returned to the Las Vegas Valley with my husband and I have decided to pursue a career in teaching. Although I enjoyed practicing law, my true passion has always been to teach. My husband and I enjoy camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends. We have an extremely high-energy fur baby named Xena (“the warrior princess”) who keeps us on our toes. I am looking forward to the coming school year. I have great expectations for my incoming students and have faith that they will have great success this year! |
Mr. Harvey, Math
Hi there! I’m Mr. Harvey and this marks my third year teaching at wonderful Ruby Duncan Elementary School. Prior to becoming a professional educator, I proudly served over 20 years in the United States Air Force. My own military experience, as well as having come from a highly service-oriented family, undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping the person that I’ve become. My life journey has also afforded me countless opportunities to travel the world, becoming immersed in learning from wonderful people of many different cultures and communities. It is largely with this perspective that I approach each school year as an enthusiastic and dedicated professional educator who endeavors to instruct, guide, and help every young learner develop a positive, productive mindset built upon a lasting intellectual foundation on which to cultivate a lifetime of learning, growth, and community involvement. |
Mr. Champlin
Hello, my name is Mr. Champlin and I am excited about my first year teaching at Ruby Duncan. I have taught for sixteen years previously. Watkins Glen New York is where I was born and raised. I received my bachelors degree in teaching at Buffalo State College and my Masters Degree at Grand Canyon University. My wife and I moved to Las Vegas a year ago. After vacationing here each year since 1995, we knew this was where we wanted to live. My wife and I agreed that we would only move here if I could continue to pursue my true passion of teaching elementary school. We have a daughter and son, both grown up, so now we have two Australian Shepherds. We enjoy motorcycle riding, traveling, and spending time with our family, Aussie’s, and friends. I am excited for what each new year brings. |
